THE LAB: Extracurriculars

Boy's Lab will partner with the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States, Inc., and a local STEM program provider, in efforts to offer two high-quality after-school programs for BL Scholars.

After-school Programs are Important

After-school programs benefit children in a variety of ways. Children can develop time-management skills, build self-esteem, form strong and healthy relationships with peers and coaches/facilitators. Most importantly, research shows that scholars who regularly participate in after-school programming surpassed their peers in academic performance.

Chicago Kings Taekwondo Club

Why Taekwondo? Martial arts enhances self-esteem by heightening the physical and mental powers of the participants. Athletes build confidence by encouragement to succeed and take control of their lives. They develop discipline by thoroughly training the body and mind in the tenets and techniques of Taekwondo. Top 5 Benefits: 1) Boosts Self Esteem, 2) Learn Self-Discipline, 3) Develop Socialization Skills, 4) Increase Physical Activity, and 5) Increase Self Control. There is no program fee, but parents will be responsible for purchasing the Dobok (Taekwondo uniform) and accompanying protective gear.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays     3:30 - 5:30 pm

Chicago Kings Young Engineers Club

Boy’s Lab will partner with a dynamic Chicago-based STEM Program to expose scholars to Engineering, Robotics, and Technology Invention (Coding).

It's more than just a fun after-school program. STEM provides opportunities for scholars to engage in critical thinking skills within the four disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Our scholars must prepare to succeed in today's technological society, understanding that many career paths are shifting towards STEM-related fields.

Tuesdays and Thursdays                         3:30 - 5:30 pm
