Beginning March 2018, Dr. Richard Glass, Jr. will join Chicago International Charter School as an inaugural Micro-Innovation Fellow, culminating with the launch of Boy's Lab in August 2018. Boy's Lab is an innovative, three-year cohort, single-sex laboratory classroom, purposed to provide an inquiry-based academic program for boys, beginning in fourth grade. Boy's Lab will serve as a demonstration classroom model, in association with Chicago International Charter School and a top-tier research university, with an ancillary focus on teacher training, educational research, and providing professional development to urban teachers.

Dr. Glass is an experienced and committed classroom teacher and school leader. He is the former principal of Urban Prep's Bronzeville Campus. Under Dr. Glass's leadership, UP Bronzeville earned a Level 1 School Quality Rating for two consecutive years. He also served as both an elementary principal and teaching assistant principal within the Chicago Public School system.

An experienced educational leader, Dr. Glass started his career as a classroom teacher, leading all-male classrooms in the North Lawndale and Englewood communities. His colleagues tell us that “Richard regards his teaching as a craft, a calling. He is passionate about education and is a lifelong learner. He works above and beyond for all of us. He’s all about what’s best for students.

Dr. Glass served as a Chicago Principal Fellow in 2016. The Chicago Principals Fellowship is a rigorous executive program for the top 10% of Chicago’s public school principals and is a partnership between the Chicago Public Education Fund and Northwestern University. He was the first charter school principal to be selected to serve as a fellow. In 2015, Dr. Glass was the Illinois Network of Charter Schools’ Principal of the Year, an honor to which he was nominated by colleagues and students.

Chicago born and raised, Dr. Glass is a 1998 graduate of Chicago State University, has a Masters in Education from Northwestern University in Elementary Teaching, a Masters in Nonprofit Management from Spertus Institute, and a Master of Arts in School Leadership from Concordia University. In February 2017, he successfully defended an Ed.D. in Instructional Leadership from Argosy University.
